The causeway, at the shoreline adjacent to Pilgrim's Landing Park, does offer brilliant views of the bay. I would caution anyone who desires to walk across it to the lighthouse that it can be a perilous journey if you are not in shape and surefooted.
THE BEST and THE MOST serene spot in Cape Cod !!
The West End Breakwater is occasionally called the Provincetown Causeway, but practically nobody knows it by its official name: the Long Point Dike. Completed in 1914, this 1.2-mile-long dike is comprised of 12,000+ granite boulders. It starts off as an easy walk from the West End Rotary, but don't underestimate its difficulty, which becomes progressively harder the further out you go. At extreme high tides, a portion of the breakwater gets submerged. While that looks harmless enough, do NOT attempt to cross -- dangerous currents can sweep you off your feet, tumbling you onto the rocks. To avoid becoming another rescued tourist, wait instead for the tide to subside. If you want to hit both lighthouses (Wood End & Long Point), plan on 5 hours. Best bet is to begin your trek two hours BEFORE low tide.
Great spot for seeing the bay and walking to the tip. A little rough in some areas, so if you're not fully mobile you might have some difficulty. The seagulls use the rocks to break open clams they find, so there's usually a nice layer of shells on the top as well. Walking the full distance can be a bit long, but worth it.
