Flyers boat rental sounded great on their website. I have rented sailboats from New Jersey to Maine, but have never done any racing, so when I read their website about their open racing on Wednesdays I really wanted to give it a try. They sounded like they just like to go sailing and have a good time.

So, not so friendly, and the "Everyone is welcome" didn't hold true.

"Every Wednesday night June 15 to labor day weather permitting at 6pm Flyer's crew races round robin style be there by 5:30 to get a boat assignment. If you are in town for the night, week or summer come on down and give it a shot. Crew or Captain become part of the fun. Everyone is welcome. No entry, no fee, no club just racing."

I got there about 5pm to ask a couple of questions, like about how long the race took so I could let my wife and son know about when I'd be back. I asked the girl at the counter about the Wednesday evening sailboat racing, and was flat out told that it was an employee only event.

Our first visit was excellent. Cheapest place to rent a Sunfish on the Cape. Front office staff were nice and accommodating. There is a small parking area. Sailing out of the launch area is a little hairy, definitely recommended a lesson if you're not confident operating a sailboat because tacking skills are needed to not hit other boats or the cement pylons. Great place to sail, protected harbor area. Staff travel around to make sure you're not in danger.

Rented kayaks as a small group and the experience could have been better. Old equipment, disorganized check-in and seemed understaffed. We were one of two groups going out at the same time, and at points we all just stood around looking at each other because there was no direction given by staff. Once on the water, everything was fine, but checking the kayaks back in was equally disorganized.

Sailed with Jared. Awesome and learned a lot. He knows what he's doing and communicates well.
